Do you love to decorate your home? Do you love the look of fancy table centerpieces, but don’t want to break the bank purchasing one?

What if I told you that you can create a beautiful centerpiece for your dining room table for under $10? That’s right, $10 is all you need to take your table from ordinary to extraordinary.

I’m here to tell you that a trip to the Dollar Store (I love the Dollar Store!) is all you need to put together an inexpensive, yet beautiful, table centerpiece that will leave your friends and family “oooing” and “ahhhing” during your next meal.

The first day of spring arrived and that means it is time to brighten up my home with the sights of spring. One of my favorite areas to decorate is the dining room table. I love putting together a centerpiece. It brings the table to life and makes the dining room feel special. However, spending a lot of money on a beautiful table centerpiece for each season and holiday was not in my budget. Therefore, I came up with an inexpensive (and easy) way to dress up the dining room table for every season.

A table centerpiece can be easy and inexpensive to make. With a few items from the Dollar Store, you can create a beautiful table centerpiece for under $10.

Materials for Your Table Centerpiece

  • Base (something for your items to stand on top of)
  • Red Wine Glasses
  • Small Candles
  • Seasonal Items (to fill wine glasses & place around base)

Before heading to the Dollar Store, shop around your house. Look in closets, cabinets and other areas of your home to find items (in above list) you can use for your table centerpiece. Let your creative juices flow!

Choose a Base for Your Table Centerpiece

Do you have a large serving platter that rarely gets used? This would be perfect as the base of your table centerpiece!

The base of my table centerpiece is part of a candle display I received as a housewarming gift many years ago. The size and shape make it a perfect base for my table centerpiece.

If you don’t have a serving platter or something similar to use as the base of your table centerpiece, that’s okay! The following items can be purchased at the Dollar Store and work just as well:

  • a large ceramic dinner plate
  • a large serving platter
  • a round pizza pan
  • a cookie sheet or jelly roll pan

The party section of the Dollar Store includes clear or silver large serving platters. These would make a great base for your table centerpiece.

The round pizza pan and silver cookie sheet are also great options for containing the items for your table centerpiece.

All of these items can be changed to better match your decorating style and color scheme of your house. You can put a solid (or patterned) placemat on top or spray paint them a color of your choice. These will increase the cost of your centerpiece, but allow you to customize it to your home and style.

Do you have an extra set of wine glasses? These would be great to take out of the cabinet and use for your table centerpiece. I chose to purchase three red wine glasses from the Dollar Store because they are bigger than the ones I already own and do not have any logos on them. You simply turn the wine glasses upside down and they become candle holders!

For spring, I purchased a bag of Easter grass and one bag of plastic eggs. I bought green candles because they can be used for a spring and St. Patrick’s Day table centerpiece. The candles also match the colors and style of our dining room.

Put Together Your Table Centerpiece

A spring table centerpiece can be easy and inexpensive to make. With a few items from the Dollar Store, you can create a beautiful, bright and cheerful table centerpiece for under $10.

It is time to set up your bright & cheery dining room table centerpiece for spring 🙂

  1. Put base down in middle of dining room table.
  2. Take Easter grass out of bag and work with it by pulling it apart. Lay across the base.
  3. Put four plastic eggs inside each wine glass. The bag I bought contained 12 plastic eggs so I divided them evenly among each glass.
  4. Turn wine glass upside down on top of Easter grass. Separate the Easter grass slightly so the wine glass is sitting flat on the base. Pull Easter grass up around wine glass.
  5. Place one candle on top of each wine glass.
  6. Sit back and enjoy your table centerpiece 🙂

Conclusion

Creating a beautiful centerpiece for your dining room table does not need to cost a lot of money or be hard. A few simple items from the Dollar Store is all you need to put together an easy and inexpensive table centerpiece for each season.

  1. This is a great idea for a centerpiece! I love that you put seasonal items under the wine glasses. It wouldn’t take much effort to quickly change this centerpiece up for every holiday. I will definitely be trying this because I think I could actually keep up with making it seasonally appropriate!

Thank you for the comment Lisa! That’s what I love about the wine glasses. You can buy them once and then quickly switch out what you put under them for each season or holiday. During the summer, I just keep wine corks under them to go with the wine theme in our dining room. Have fun decorating!
