Decorating my home for the holidays is important to me and I make time for it. I love putting up our artificial Christmas Tree and all the lights. So do my kids! But there is no reason I need to limit that excitement to Christmastime. A few years ago someone at church told me they keep their Christmas Tree up year-round, changing the decorations for each season. I thought this was a fun idea and decided to try it out! The decorated tree makes a nice backdrop for seasonal and holiday pictures, too! In this blog post, I’m going to share some year-round seasonal tree decorating ideas you can try in your home, too! The best part is these ideas are easy and inexpensive.

Winter Tree
A winter-themed tree is a great option for the month of January. I leave up our snowmen ornaments for the month. My husband gifts me the Hallmark Keepsake Snowmen ornament each year and I enjoy displaying them on our tree for a little longer. Plus, they go perfectly with my footprint snowmen decoration on the mantle.
Snowmen ornaments are the perfect way to decorate your tree for the wintertime. These snowmen ornaments can be personalized with the name of each family member.
Snowflake ornaments are another great decorating idea for a winter-themed tree. This set of 36 wooden snowflakes are sparkly and beautiful. They come in a variety of sizes and add lots of sparkle to your tree.
My children wanted to make coffee filter snowflakes for our winter-themed tree. I showed them how to do it and then I laminated them and turned them into ornaments for our winter tree. It was a special homemade touch to our winter tree!
Photo ornaments are one of my favorite ways to decorate a year-round tree. I love displaying pictures throughout my home. Choose your favorite winter photos from over the years. I enjoyed going through our photos and printing pictures of my children playing in the snow and building snowmen. Print the photos and insert into these simple hanging picture frame ornaments or use websites such as Shutterfly to design your own photo ornaments. For our winter tree, I used these natural wood slices and used Mod Podge to adhere and seal my favorite winter photos to each slice.
You can find sets of wooden ornaments for every season, holiday and theme you can imagine. This 36 piece set of winter ornaments includes 12 different styles for your winter-themed tree. The snow globe, cup of hot chocolate, mittens, winter hat, snowmen and gnome make adorable ornaments for your tree. The blue and white color design is perfect for wintertime!

Valentine’s Day Tree
For the month of February, our tree is decorated for Valentine’s Day. My favorite parts of decorating my home for Valentine’s Day are adding pops of red and pink and lots of hearts.
I adorn our Valentine’s Day tree with a set of wooden heart ornaments and red heart garland. I found these items at the Dollar Tree. However, they were not colored, but this set of 12 distressed wooden rustic hearts add red, pink and white colors to your tree for Valentine’s Day. If you prefer a more three-dimensional ornament, this set of 36 heart shaped bauble ornaments would add some sparkle and shine to your tree.
I love getting my children involved in decorating the tree. And they love anything involving crafts and paint! They added color to the plain wooden ornaments by painting them with acrylic paint or coloring them with permanent markers. These Valentine’s Day Paper Heart Suncatchers would be a sweet addition to your Valentine’s Day tree.
I printed heart-shaped pictures of my children from past Valentine’s Day on cardstock and laminated them. Then punched a hole at the top and put a piece of string or yarn through to create an inexpensive and easy ornament for our Valentine’s Day Tree. I love doing seasonal photoshoots with my kids and couldn’t resist adding these adorable pictures to our tree.
Another way you can decorate your Valentine’s Day tree is with silk roses. The Dollar Store sells red and pink roses during Valentine’s Day. Just purchase a bunch of each color, and scatter them throughout the tree.

St. Patrick’s Day Tree
Whenever I am shopping for decorations for our tree, I check out the Dollar Store first. For St. Patrick’s Day, I found foam shamrocks. I punched a hole in the top and hung each one on our tree as ornaments. The different shades of green and the glitter on some of the shamrocks added pops of color and sparkle to our St. Patrick’s Day Tree. Several green beaded necklaces cut into shorter strands adorned our tree like tinsel.
I printed pictures on cardstock of my children from past years on St. Patrick’s Day, laminated them, cut them into circles, punched a hole and used yellow yarn to hang them around our tree. My children love looking at the pictures and it’s an easy way to display the pictures from year to year.
Here is a nice set of hanging shatterproof plastic ball ornaments for St. Patrick’s Day. It includes 28 ornaments with 7 different designs. My favorite are the shamrock-shaped ones!
Your children can enjoy coloring or painting this set of shamrock paper ornaments, adding a homemade touch to your St. Patrick’s Day tree.

Easter Tree
The pastel colors of spring adorn our tree during this time of year. I put string into the holes of plastic Easter eggs, tied a knot and transformed them into ornaments for our tree. These beautiful Easter eggs make the perfect decoration for an Easter tree.
If you prefer more of a variety, this set of wooden Easter ornaments are perfect. You can bring each one to life by adding color. Painting them with pastel colors or permanent markers would make these a colorful addition to your Easter Tree. I love the different designs on each egg.
This set of foam bunnies are the perfect craft activity for kids. They can decorate each one with the included stickers and hang on the tree as ornaments. These also make a sweet gift for family and friends at Easter. It includes a set of 24, which would be ideal for a classroom activity at school or church. If your child’s birthday is in the spring, this would be a fun craft to do during a birthday party. The finished bunnies can be hung on your tree or around the house.
Here is a set of foam eggs for children to decorate and hang on your Easter tree. Putting a tree skirt at the bottom of the tree gives the Easter tree a finished look. This adorable pastel Easter Bunny Rabbit Ear and Eggs tree skirt is perfect for an Easter tree. I use a spring table cloth around the bottom of my Easter tree, but it always gets moved around so I love that this tree skirt ties in the back to keep it looking nice under the tree. There are a couple different seasonal and themed designs to choose from, too!

Summer Beach Tree
During the summer months, which I consider May through August, our tree is transformed into a beach-themed paradise. Our house décor during those months includes beach-themed touches, too. I found a set of wooden ocean animal ornaments and white sand dollar ornaments at the Dollar Tree. These are the perfect decorations for our beach tree.
This set of unfinished wooden ocean animals and seashell cutouts are very similar to the ones I found at the Dollar Tree and would be fun for your children to paint. They can paint with all colors or you can do a color scheme of blue, green and white. The kids can mix the colors to create different shades and all the ornaments would be a similar color scheme when you hang them on the tree. My kids enjoyed painting the seahorse, whale and turtle ornaments I found at the Dollar Tree with these colors. They look pretty on the tree, too!
The sand dollars I hang on our beach-themed tree look similar to the ones in this 26 piece set of ocean themed Christmas ornaments. These three-dimensional ornaments are made of quality resin material. The sea blue and white sand dollars, seahorses, starfish and seashells really pop against your green Christmas tree.
Similar to the Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day trees, I printed our family beach pictures from each summer. I put each picture inside of a shell outline using PicMonkey, printed on cardstock and laminated for durability. It becomes a way to display some of our favorite beach memories over the years. My kids love looking at pictures from when they were little, too.
If you like the idea of hanging pictures on your tree, but don’t have the option to print at home and laminate, these hanging picture frames are a great option for you. Have 2×3 pictures of your favorite beach memories printed at Walgreens or another local store and add them to these frames. Hang on your tree to enjoy looking at during the season.
This sea turtle beach tree skirt is the perfect way to finish off your beach-themed Christmas tree. The sea turtles are adorable! The scene is very realistic with the ocean, sand and seashells scattered throughout.

Halloween Tree
Over Labor Day, I decorate our tree for Halloween. My kids love Halloween and get very excited when the Halloween decorations come out. Before kids, our house décor during this time of year included leaves, pumpkins and scarecrows. Now, fall is mostly Halloween decorations with some pumpkins and leaves. Check out the post Cozy Home Decorating Ideas for Fall for inspiration on adding fall touches throughout your home.
Similar to the other seasonal trees, my kids look forward to painting ornaments to hang up on the tree. The ornaments for Halloween include cats, Jack-o-Lanterns, witch hats and ghosts. We have a few foam ornaments the kids made, too!
This set of 24 wooden Halloween ornaments are fun to use for decorations on your Halloween tree.
Your children can color or paint this set of wooden Halloween ornaments. You can hang on your Halloween tree or gift them to friends or family. My family loves receiving handmade gifts from my children and I think it sends a loving message that time was spent making something just for them.
This set of shatterproof Halloween ball ornaments are colorful, simple and kid friendly for your Halloween tree.
Print a picture from past Halloweens and hang these on your tree during this time of year! Shutterfly does frequent deals on ornaments and they have designs that are not specific to Christmas. You could make one each year from your family’s favorite Halloween pictures and enjoy seeing all the memories displayed on your tree. It’s a fun way to reminisce on the Halloween costumes during Trick-or-Treat.

Thanksgiving Tree
During the month of November, I switch our tree to leaves and pumpkins. We also talk about what and who we are thankful for during this month. One year I asked my children to tell me someone or something they are thankful for each day during the month of November. I wrote these on leaves printed on cardstock and hung them on our Thanksgiving Tree. You can download a set of the thankful leaves I created by heading over to this blog post about teaching thankfulness to preschoolers.
These felt maple leaf ornaments are perfect for this time of year. The one with the footballs on it is my favorite because I love football season. I get so excited to spend Sundays hanging out with my family and watching football come fall. The soft material of these ornaments makes them unbreakable, which is nice when you have pets and young children.
These hanging pumpkin ball ornaments are a great addition, too! I like the different colors of the pumpkins. Pumpkin season is by far my favorite!

As you can see, you can keep your Christmas tree up year round and change the ornaments and decorations each month for the specific holidays and seasons. My kids love helping me decorate our tree for each holiday. A year-round seasonal tree is a fun decorating idea for your home! It always made me sad to take it down and put it away. This way I can keep it up year round and enjoy it 365 days of the year. I hope this post gave you some fun and new ways to decorate your Christmas tree for holidays other than Christmas!
