Hello Fall! Hello Fall Activities!

The change of seasons brings about new opportunities for learning, exploration and family fun.

My daughter is almost two and a very active toddler. I am fortunate enough to be at home with her during the day. This means we are always looking for things to do that encourage learning, keep us active, and are filled with fun. Thus, this list of 25 fall activities was born.

All of these activities are toddler-friendly and family-friendly, provide valuable learning opportunities for your child, and nurture your child’s natural curiosity.

25 Fall Activities for Your Active Toddler

  1. Visit the Zoo – Our local zoo holds an event called “Boo At the Zoo” over two weekends in October. This family friendly event includes fun activities for the kids throughout the zoo. Different community organizations and local colleges set up tables throughout the zoo. Kids are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes and go trick or treating. The volunteers at each table offer candy/treats for the kids to take as well as crafts/activities for them to complete. Also, there are fall decorations set up and a DJ playing music. It is a very popular event in our community!
  2. Apple Picking
  3. Visit A Pumpkin Patch
  4. Dress up for Halloween & Go Trick or Treating
  5. Go to the Science Museum – Our local science museum puts on an exhibit called Jack-O-Lantern Lane for several weeks starting in September and running through October. This exhibit is a family-friendly walk-through Halloween experience with several exploration stations set up. One of the coolest parts of this seasonal exhibit is the 50 carved Jack-O-Lanterns set up for visitors to admire.
  6. Go to A Local Amusement Park – We live near Dorney Park, Hershey Park and Sesame Place. All three of these amusement parks put on special seasonal events and activities for the Halloween season. Dorney Park has “The Great Pumpkin Fest”. Hershey Park has “Hersheypark in the Dark”. Sesame Place has “The Count’s Halloween Spooktacular. All three events are family-friendly and lots of fun for the kids!
  7. Jump, Run & Play in the Leaves
  8. Visit A New Playground
  9. Paint A Pumpkin
  10. Go to A Fall Festival
  11. Take A Nature Walk – Collect leaves, pine cones and acorns on the walk. Point out the different colors of the leaves. Observe the changes in nature (crunchy leaves on the ground, bare trees, cooler temperatures).
  12. Drink Apple Cider
  13. Watch Football on TV or Go to A High School/College Football Game
  14. Apple Stamping
  15. Take Fall Pictures
  16. Go for A Hayride
  17. Watch A Community Halloween Parade

  20. Fall Sensory Play – Fill a plastic bin or large bowl with popcorn kernels, acorns, or dried beans. Add in some silk leaves and small artificial pumpkins. Put out spoons, cups, and tongs. Let your toddler explore the bin by scooping up and pouring popcorn kernels and dried beans. Your toddler can also build his/her fine motor skills by using the tongs to pick up the acorns, silk leaves and small artificial pumpkins.
  21. Watch (or Read) “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”
  22. Color Sorting Activities with Fall Colors (Red, Orange, Yellow, Brown)

Thank you for the comment! We did engagement pictures in the fall and I loved the colors of the leaves. I’m excited to take my daughter to a local park and take some pictures of her running in the leaves. Have fun baking 🙂 Many of the farms near us are opening in the next few weeks so we can start apple picking! I love the smell that fills the house when you are baking apple pie or anything with apples.
