Today is my husband’s birthday and I wanted to do something for him that would be just for him.

My husband was a swimmer and earned a lot of medals and plaques from his years as a swimmer.  He wanted these displayed in our home office.  He used to have all of these medals, plaques and framed swimming certificates displayed in an area of the basement.  Two years ago, we experienced water damage in the basement.  This water damage required us to completely redo the finished basement.  My husband had movie posters, sports memorabilia, and swimming things displayed on the walls.  Pretty much, every wall was covered with something that interested him.  He also had his desk and workspace set up in the basement while my desk and workspace was set up in our home office.  The basement was essentially his “Man Cave”.  It took a little over a year for the basement to be completely refinished.  At this point, we decided to transform the basement into more of a family space because I was pregnant with our daughter.  We knew that we wanted part of this space to be a play room for our children, an area to be for me to do my running workouts, a place to play board games or do craft projects and watch TV or play video games.  We decided to move my husband’s desk upstairs to the home office and display those things that are important to us, reflect our individual and common interests and display what we’ve accomplished.  In other words, the home office turned into a room that is all about my husband and I.

All of my running medals are displayed above my desk.  My husband likes how it looks and expressed his interest in having his swimming medals displayed in a similar way.

I did some research on medal hangers and ended up ordering this one on Amazon.  I wanted to hang it up and get it all set up for him for his birthday.  Today was the day I tackled the project and am really happy with how it turned out.  This inspired me to take pictures of our workspace in the home office and share with my readers.  My hope is that this inspires you to make your home office space a place that reflects your interests, displays your achievements and is a place that makes you happy and gives you the inspiration you need to reach the goals you set for yourself.

This is my husband’s workspace. There were a lot of medals to display, but I managed to fit them all onto the hanger.

My Desk Area and Workspace
This is my workspace, which is actually an old kitchen table. I love looking at my running medals because they remind me of my hard work, dedication to running, and the places I’ve visited because of running. Most of the medals are displayed on a curtain rod that is hung using command hooks.
