Baby Girl Clothes are the Cutest!

I’m a first time mom to a little girl!  I can’t help but get drawn into the cute baby girl clothes!  From the coordinating outfit sets to the frilly dresses, I can’t help but say, “Aww look how cute this is!”  But the cost of dressing a baby girl can add up very quickly!  Many of the clothes only get worn once and a piece of the coordinating outfit may not get worn at all.  My husband and I are on a tight BUDGET at the moment, which means we are looking to SAVE money everywhere we can.  Shopping for baby clothes (and baby supplies/gear for that matter) is one area where we can save a TON of money!  Shopping at Yard Sales, Flea Markets and Garage Sales, in my opinion, is the BEST way to SAVE money on baby clothing.  Shopping the clearance racks at your favorite department stores is another way you can SAVE money.

Flea Market Finds

This past weekend, my husband and I ventured to an indoor flea market at a local community park.  I learned about this flea market from the community park’s website and through a garage sale website that sends me periodic emails.  There was an advertisement from a woman who was selling baby girl clothes from sizes 3 months to 3T!  I immediately told my husband and we put it on the calendar!

Let me tell you….we made out very well!!  The woman had various hanging items priced at $1-$3 and bins of clothing priced at $.50 a piece!  She also advertised “Fill A Bag for $5”.  I browsed the hanging items and found a few things.  I spoke with the woman about Jemma and the woman helped me sort through the bins of clothes to find items that would fit her body type (long and lean) for the coming months.  I also filled the bags with long sleeved and short sleeved onesies in sizes 12 months to 18 months.  Our total was $18!

Here is what I got for $18:

  • 4 long sleeved shirts (18 months)
  • 2 long sleeved onesies (18 months)
  • 5 long sleeved onesies (12 months)
  • 5 short sleeved onesies + 1 short sleeved PJ shirt (12 months)
  • 3 summer bottoms — 2 pairs of shorts and 1 skirt (9-12 months)
  • 5 pairs of pants (12 months)
  • 6 summer outfits — rompers/dress/tank top onesie (9-12 months)
  • 2 summer hats
  • 8 footed sleepers (18 months)
  • 1 Christmas-Themed/Winter PJ set (18 months)
  • 12 pairs of pants — leggings/jeans/sweatpants/corduroys (18 months)
  • 1 zip up sweatshirt
  • 1 short sleeved Minnie Mouse onesie (18 months) — We are going to Disney World when Jemma is almost 18 months so this was a perfect find!
  • 1 pair of never worn Old Navy summer flip flops
  • 1 one-piece outfit (18 months)
  • 1 long sleeve/corduroy “Daddy’s Little Lady” outfit (18 months) — The lady bugs on the bottom of the corduroy pants were too cute to pass up!
  • 1 3-piece summer outfit (12 months) — This included a tank top onesie, skirt and short sleeved onesie.
  • 1 Spring Dress (6-9 months)
  • 1 bathing suit with cover up (9 months) — Perfect for our 4th of July family beach trip!
  • 1 summer tank outfit with matching shorts (3T) — This had Minnie Mouse on it so I got it for our Disney Trip.  It might be a little big on her, but it appeared small.  Even if it doesn’t fit her next spring when we go to Disney, she can wear it the following summer!

68 items (I included each set as multiple items) for $18 = $0.26/item!!  Wow!!

My husband thanked the woman for supplying our daughter’s summer, fall and winter wardrobe 🙂  He couldn’t believe how many items of clothing we got for $18!  I couldn’t wait to get home and lay everything out, look at it all again and sort through it!  I spent the next few days doing laundry and sorting the clothes into two plastic storage totes ready for when Jemma reaches these sizes 🙂

There will be more Yard Sale, Flea Market and Garage Sale shopping this spring and summer!  I always see signs in the summer for Yard Sales and Garage Sales.

Clearance Goodies

I also pay attention to the sales at Kohl’s (gotta love those 30% coupons and Kohl’s Cash), Carter’s and Target.  I also browse the clearance racks at many stores, which is where I found a beautiful red Christmas dress for next Christmas for $6!  Definitely a good deal!  Nothing beats $0.26 an item at a Flea Market though!

I still buy some things brand new, but I couldn’t believe how well I made out at this Flea Market so I had to share with you!  Be sure to check out your local newspaper or the website www.GarageSalesTracker.com for Flea Markets, Yard Sales and Garage Sales in your area.  The great thing about the Garage Sales Tracker website is you can specify the items you are looking for, how far you are willing to drive and when notifications of sales are sent to your email.

In a few weeks, we will be venturing out to a Consignment Sale that features children’s clothing, toys, baby gear, and baby clothing.  These types of sales are another way to buy items secondhand and stay on a budget.  I’d love to hear about how you save money on baby items!

  1. Yes to second-hand kids clothes! I don’t know if I can count the “new clothes” l’ve gotten for my 2 kids on both hands. Children’s clothes resales are a big thing in my area. There’s a bunch in the fall and spring, and they’re amazing. I even get my kids a bunch of Christmas gifts there too!

Thanks for the comment Meredith! The only new clothes I have now are the ones that were purchased by the grandparents. I am really excited to see what else I can find this summer. I never thought to look at the children’s clothes resales last spring/summer when I was pregnant, but will definitely do it this year!
